@Rachel - See now, I thought the opposite. When I went to Colorado, it was so much easier for me. The snow was a whole different ballgame and I actually had time to figure out how to feel the skis beneath my feet before I hit the bottom of the 'hill' -
Perhaps a trip to Lutsen is in order first...and we'll go from there.
I'm tempted to sign D up at Buck Hill, but I wonder if he couldn't just mostly figure it out on his own?

I had the boys do ski lessons at Buck Hill...two winters ago now. So W was 4 and C was 2(!!!!). They both did it and LOVED it. M&C splurged and got them private lessons, but they both did really well and had a blast. They've also taken the boys to Lutsen the last three winters and had a wonderful time. I was a HUGE skier growing up and loved every second. I'd recommend doing Lutsen for a few years so the whole family can get comfortable and THEN venture out to Colorado, as skiing/snowboarding on real-life mountains is a whole new beast.

When I was little (I am guessing around 9-10ish, I know I was still in elementary school)I took ski lessons through the Minneapolis parks. I'm pretty sure we skiied at Buck Hill and Wirth Park (does Wirth have skiing???). Nothing huge. I learned the basics and it was sufficient for me to be able to ski at Lutsen in middle school with a church group (don't ask). I haven't been in 15ish years but it was a good experience. That said, I'm not sure J is ever allowed to ski. Definitely not without a helmet. :) And possible a protective bubble around her.
