Bedtime Stories...

Saturday, May 14, 2011

Our friend Matt, author of Two Kisses for Maddy has been making the book signing rounds on a National Book tour...

I met up with some girlfriends the other night & we listened to Matt read from his heart wrenching non-fiction book...

And then Maddy promptly stole the show...

When I shared my pictures with the kids the next day...
They were pretty impressed that A) Maddy had grown into a kid, who PLAYS! ...and, B) 'had grown hair' - HA HA!

H was dying to see her...and also demanding to know 'When did Matt get so famous?' ~

Kid - we're still asking ourselves that same thing!!

So...We brought the family out to one of the local book signings...Where she got to shadow the now famous Matt Logelin around...

(I love this picture...I'm not sure who looks more bored! HA!)

After asking me a couple dozen times if she could have her own book. I finally conceded. She was asking if we would read her a chapter each night before bed, as we do with some of her other books...

You know, like Junie B. Jones?

Um. Not-so-much.

She absolutely adores the pictures on the inside covers of Two Kisses for Maddy.

Her favorite? The picture of Liz looking at Maddy.
Incidently, the only picture of the two of them together.

Some day, I will tell my little girl all about my story...
And she will understand why pictures mean so very very much to me...
(though I secretly think she gets it already...she's an old soul this one...)

Even though we have no plans to read her a single page of this book until she is older, much much older ~
We did let her buy a copy of Two Kisses for Maddy - which Matt graciously autographed for her.
It's now displayed proudly on her bookshelf in her room - nestled in front of the Junie B. Jones series, books about Princesses, Dinosaurs and everything else under the sun.

I think she may tell you it's her favorite book, even though she hasn't read the pages yet.

She knows the story that these pages hold.
She knows the people that the story involves.
She knows just how very very important this story is.

If only it were just a story.

Tomorrow is the big day!

April 14th, 2011

The official release date of Two Kisses for Maddy - a much anticipated book chronicling the story of my friend (and yours) Matt Logelin & the events surrounding the birth of his daughter Maddy.

Thanks to a pre-order via Amazon.com (ok, and maybe a quick stop in my local Barnes & Noble because I was maybe a little impatient!!) I was able to get my hands on a copy of this book, and read it cover to cover already...

Have you?

I highly recommend this book - If you've ever read Matt's blog - you know how powerful his writing can be.

Even knowing the story beforehand, reading Matt's blog regularly, and having the privilege of calling him Friend in real life, reading this book still touched my heart in ways I cannot explain.  I honestly didn't expect the tears to flow, but then again, how do you stop them?  When Madeline was born, I had a one year old and a two year old at home...It's not hard to imagine yourself in this situation - even as unthinkable as the story is.  As a wife and mother, I imagine Liz, so excited about the impending birth of her baby.  I know what it's like to see your baby whisked off to the NICU while you sit in your hospital room waiting, wondering...

Liz never even had the chance to hold her baby.

Un. Thinkable.

Yet, this story is non-fiction.  It's as real as the day is long.

From this terrible tragedy, hope has sprung...Hope for young widows and widowers out there, by way of the Liz Logelin Foundation, created in memory of Liz.  The Liz Logelin Foundation was established to assist widows and widowers with young families who find themselves in the heartbreaking, catastrophic situation of having lost a spouse, life-partner, and parent.  The Foundation’s goal is to financially assist these families as they deal with the loss of their loved ones, and struggle to move forward.  Gay, straight, single or married...the foundation does not discriminate...If you lose a life partner and have dependent children, you are welcome to apply for assistance.

That's where you come in - maybe you don't need assistance...but maybe you don't need that $7 worth of lattes either?

Maybe instead of going out to lunch one day this week...you could redirect those funds elsewhere??

Every. Dollar. Counts.

I'm serious.

If 100 of us gave $7 this week - that adds up to a quick $700 that could benefit the foundation...

That means that a family might be able to keep their cable just a little bit longer, heat/cool their home, put food on their table...or maybe, if they are so inclined, they just might be able to do something special in hopes of feeling normal, if even for just a day or two.
Some families request assistance in purchasing a new computer to aide with homework or job searches, some need help paying medical bills or funeral expenses, some need help with their mortgage or car payment...How the recipients use the money is up to them...no strings attached.

Every situation is different.

Every situation sucks.

Have you counted your blessings today?

Donating is easy...and tax deductible!
Think about it won't you?
To date, over 70 families have been awarded financial assistance...your donation will help the foundation help 70 more.

Matt's doing book signings all over Timbuktu! Well, maybe not Timbuktu YET, but he is covering quite a bit of the country!

Check it out to see if there's an event in your city!

PS - Mark your calendars now for September 16 & 17th, 2011 - The annual Gala/5k events have been scheduled for the Twin Cities and I'd LOVE to see you there.  Remember how GREAT last year was?

&...We've started collecting donations for our silent/live auctions for the September 2011 events so if you have any goods/services that you would like to donate, please let me know!!

Two Kisses for Maddy -

Tuesday, January 25, 2011

Two years ago this month - The Liz Logelin Foundation was officially born -

A lot has happened in those two (+) years...incredible friendships have formed, fundraising has taken place by way of some pretty awesome parties and 5k walk/runs...and most importantly - thanks to donations made by you, almost 70 families (and counting!) also dealing with a tragic loss have had a teeny tiny part of their burden lifted by way of financial grants to be used any way they see fit...

And now...on the horizon is an official book that Matt has written! If you love his blog (or even if you don't!) you are sure to love this book - and for those of you who don't like to read, there will be an audio version released as well...read by none other than Mr. Logelin himself!

Book Description as taken from AMAZON:
Matt and Liz Logelin were high school sweethearts. After years of long-distance dating, the pair finally settled together in Los Angeles, and they had it all: a perfect marriage, a gorgeous new home, and a baby girl on the way. Liz's pregnancy was rocky, but they welcomed Madeline, beautiful and healthy, into the world on March 24, 2008. Just twenty-seven hours later, Liz suffered a pulmonary embolism and died instantly, without ever holding the daughter whose arrival she had so eagerly awaited. Though confronted with devastating grief and the responsibilities of a new and single father, Matt did not surrender to devastation; he chose to keep moving forward-- to make a life for Maddy. In this memoir, Matt shares bittersweet and often humorous anecdotes of his courtship and marriage to Liz; of relying on his newborn daughter for the support that she unknowingly provided; and of the extraordinary online community of strangers who have become his friends. In honoring Liz's legacy, heartache has become solace. This intimate retelling of one year marked by tremendous highs and lows offers something to any reader who has experienced grief and has sought the courage to live again.

I haven't read it yet, but I cannot wait to read it in April -
