Happy Birthday Derek!

Dear Derek –
Today you are two. Two. Years. Old. How did that happen? Seems like just last week Daddy and I were discussing baby names over and over and over again and wondering what it would be like to have two kids under the age of 15 months. Now you are two! A walking, talking, toilet using, hockey playing, ball throwing, I’ll try anything once little human being.
I can hardly believe it. I can hardly believe that we got so lucky.
Oh, it’s true it hasn’t been the easiest couple of years but now, now we’ve got life by the tail. As do you my son, as do you!! Deciding well before your second birthday that you were a big boy and would be putting all your *business* in the toilet!!??!! (Well, almost always since it is pretty fun to watch it spray all over the bathroom floor too!)
Hearing you go from one word at a time to putting your words together into sentences – starting each day asking for first your sister, and then your Dad – “Dodd-dee here??”. Once you have everyone accounted for – the fun begins. And oh what fun it is. From the cars to the trucks to the trains to the dolls – yes, even the dolls. You love to carry around the baby boy doll your sister so graciously lets you hold on to – and you call him “Ryan!” To hear you sing. To watch you laugh. To hold you when you cry- for all of ten seconds that you let us when you bonk your head, split your lip, fall down the stairs! People tell you that being a parent is amazing and I always thought that that must be true, because children ARE amazing little creatures, but until your sister and you came along – I had no idea. No idea just how fantastic it truly was. My life is complete because I am a mom. Your mom. I love you little man. More than you could ever possibly know.
XoXo – Mommy
