Get To the Point...

So...a couple of days ago my trusty old point and shoot camera died...
Three and a half years that little camera and I spent together. Every. single. day.

I loved it.
Together we took upwards of 15,000 pictures...
She was being held together by some fancy packaging tape and had definately lived a great life...
It was time...but I am not ready...

I do have an SLR that I love - and will love even more after I know just exactly how to use it - I mean, I've only had it for a year and a half so...I'm finally investing in a class to remind me just what all the little buttons are exactly for...

But I cannot be without a point and shoot camera...

After being without one for 24 hours - I headed over to my favorite camera store to pick up the latest version of the one I already had that I knew I loved...
but after playing around with cameras for a bit - the sales guy sent me home with a Canon Power Shot...
It's handy - and seems to take good pictures...but it's taking some getting used to. The controls appear small and a little bit cumbersome (prolly cuz it's new to me)

I have 30 days to decide if I want to keep it - I'd like to decide in 3 if I really do want this one or if I want to get the Casio that I know and love...

So my question to you is...

What do YOU use for your point and shoot?
Do you love it? Hate it?

I only have a few criteria for point and shoot - and I am sure they aren't the same as the rest of you -
the biggie for me...
I NEED it to be able to date stamp my pictures ON THE PICTURE if I want it to - I know not everyone loves that feature - but I do.
With young kids - I love being able to just see the date on the picture in the bottom corner and say - oh...that's when D was just 5 months old, H had just turned 3 when this picture was taken, look how much snow we had on the ground - in APRIL last year, etc etc -
It makes picture organizing, etc soo much better for me.

Shutter speed is important - though most of them seem to be much quicker than in the past...and being able to take video...

So-both of the cameras I am looking at have that - but they each have different features that are pretty cool - the Casio can take 1000 pictures before needing to be charged...the Canon only around 300 (give or take I'm sure)

The Canon has built in editing features right on the camera - including cropping/resizing the photo and enhancing the colors...that's pretty cool -

The Casio offers a 10x zoom, the Canon only 4x...

it's basically to decide for myself between a new Casio Exilim that I've been using for three and a half years -
or ::gasp:: accept change and keep the Canon Power Shot...

Do you have either of these cameras?
What are you point and shooting with?

I love my point + shoot, just wish I had better zoom capabilities (eg for when our kids are playing sports) and wish I could take better pictures indoors, but that's my limit, not my camera's. :)

i have the canon power shot sd900 ...had it for over 2 years and just now learned how to add the date stamp ...could kill myself. the thing is, it was a super expensive camera but the pics are the quality i expected. i had a cheaper canon before and the pics were phenomenal. oh well.

I use my iPhone for point & shoot, just wish it had zoom capabilities. I just got a DSLR and am having fun learning to use it. I used a SLR forever, but went to the digital P&S because everyone else was (what's film?). But I never liked the quality of the P&S - I tried 3 different ones. I'm loving the new DSLR, but I realize it's not handy. But the iPhone is always with me.

Couldn't tell ya what I use but it's showing signs of having been dropped one too many times, and I'll be looking over your shoulder on your comments to see what folks recommend! : )

I use the Canon PowerShot SD880 IS Digital ELPH as my "always have it in my purse" camera. I really like it. It's pretty intuitive and durable. Requirements for me and my purse, respectively.

I have a Canon Powershot SD790 and I LOVE IT! I have had it for about 2 years, so it's a little banged up by now, but holding up well. It takes really bright, lovely photos and I couldn't be happier with my purchase. (http://tinyurl.com/y7h6m73)

Also, I have bought three of these Canon cameras (http://tinyurl.com/y4cl5um) as gifts for friends and they all LOVE them. So far I have given the pink, green, and orange and I have gotten nothing but great feedback from my friends who got them. :-)

Be sure to let us know what you decide! :-D

I love my powershot, and will be Cannon girl for some time. I have an older powershot and a bigger one too. The smaller one has been dropped, banged and beaten but still lives on!

I've always had a canon and been happy. I would love a nice camera (like the fancy one I've seen you with) but that's not in my future, so it's the canon for us. My daughter and I get red eye in every shot so i like that it can be corrected right away and very easily. I like the features, especially the "kid and pet" spot on the dial. The only issue I have is that it seems to need the batteries replaced often. I didn't experience that in my old camera, so I have no idea. I'm inclined to believe it's something I did and not a canon issue, but that's my only complaint.
