First Day of School ~

Thursday, September 8, 2011

At 7:00 this morning, our girl was up and at em... A bowl full of frosted flakes in her belly...back pack on her back...
And RARING to go to school for her very first day of kindergarten...

The bummer being, that her bus doesn't come until 8:50!

ACK!

She was so so so excited about her first day of school she was literally FLOaTiNg around for these last few days...

7 am First Day of School
 (2 hours before Go TIME!)
So, 7 something am had us wandering around the yard snapping random photos...

And when she got bored of that...
She went to the cul de sac to hang with our sweet Angel Friend & neighbor Katie.

I cannot even begin to tell you what a breathe of fresh air this girl (and her sister) is...
So so good to our children...kind, caring, interested...
Our kids ADORE these two older kids...and I do too!

(This is Hailey and Katie sitting on the picnic table in the cul de sac discussing, well, stuff)
Then, as our wonderful surrogate family AKA, our neighbors came out, I asked to have a family photo done...
Not too shabby...even the dog was looking!!

Oh but wait...don't we also have a son? Adorable little brunette, freckles on his face...about 4 years old? Why isn't he in the picture you ask?

Well, seems Buddy isn't too keen on the fact that his big sister gets to head off to school without him...
'A week is a really long time to wait you know Mom!'

A week?
I asked him what he was talking about...turns out...that's how long he thinks it will be until he gets to go to school...
Oh my little buddy...

It's a year, but who's counting?

Well, he is.

The bus arrived and the kiddos were ready...

She stopped just long enough to turn around for a picture...

And just like that...
The bus drove away with our baby girl to take her to Kindergarten...

Even though I could SWEAR she was just born...
Amazing...
The Hubs asked me...so now what? They take our baby girl and she goes to school and that's it?

I guess so...what do I know?

Thankfully...my friends on Facebook and Twitter told me it wasn't completely crazy if I met our girl at school to snap a few photos on her first day...THANK YOU Robin for making that your status before I sent my kid to school so I didn't miss out!!

So I hopped in the car and followed the bus all the way to school!
KIDDING!
I AM TOTALLY KIDDING HERE FOLKS...
Couldn't you totally see me doing that though?

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAAA!

I totally would too!

I didn't FOLLOW the bus, however, I did leisurely drive over to the school to see if I could snap a couple of pictures.
The hubs even surprised us and showed up after dropping our boy off at daycare! YAY!

So...yes, pictures...
This blur running from the bus to school...

Literally running right past us...

And into her new classroom!

Talk about awesomesauce!

And just like that, our baby girl has a schedule all her own! Amazing.

Also amazing...I didn't shed a single tear. It wasn't even that I was holding them back. It's just that our girl has been so excited. So full of energy. So ready for this next step...that I couldn't possibly shed a tear over this. I felt like my heart might explode from pure joy watching our normally introverted and sometimes anxious little girl take the world by the horns and give it a what for...but I didn't cry.

We love you Hailey Elizabeth.

Here's to new beginnings.

So glad to hear the day went well. I'm glad you met her at school - but as it turns out DH & I decided not to. My kinder girl was pretty focused (she ZOOMED onto the bus) and we suspected we would probably break her stride if we met her there. I was able to work from home today though, to catch departure and arrival, so there's that. Looks like H is in the full-day gig too - my girl was WIPED out by day's end. She held it together on the walk home from the bus stop but as soon as we got in the door she buried her head into me and cried. Oh, that girl. I'm saying lots of prayers tonight that each day will get easier on her mind and body!

That said, she reported that today they "told her a lot of boring stuff." Sigh.
