Cub Foods Dietitian - Heidi Diller Q&A & GiveAway!

Tuesday, November 22, 2011

It’s officially ‘holiday season’ and the one thing I hear over and over and over again…more than Black Friday and more than shopping, more than 'how many days until Christmas?'…is food, food, and more food. Cooking food, eating food. Which recipes are the favorites, which are traditions…which are ‘healthy.’

This final six weeks of the year is the do all end all, before the ‘New Year’s Resolution’ period begins on January 1st. Holiday eating can make or break you – trust me…I know!

I was recently given the opportunity to interview Cub Foods Dietitian Heidi Diller – Sure, I could probably ask Heidi lots and lots of questions…It’s no secret my own eating habits are terrible..ESPECIALLY as winter is upon us…

The few fruits and veggies I do enjoy are harder to get: watermelon, giant juicy grapes, fresh green beans…

But what fun would it be for you all to listen to my (non) healthy eating woes?

Instead…I want YOU to ask the questions of Heidi!

Go ahead…ask your most pressing health/nutrition question of Heidi…

Maybe you want to know how to eat healthy during the holidays, how to make smart choices this season. From picking light meat or dark meat on Thanksgiving to how to make cookies that pack a nutritional punch…

Let’s hear your questions!

And, for anyone who leaves a question for Heidi in the comments section of this blog entry, the fine folks at Cub foods are offering one Gust Gab reader a gift card of their own for Cub Foods, so they can head to the grocery store newly armed with nutritional knowledge, compliments of Heidi Diller.

*** If you aren’t local & don’t have use for a Cub Foods gift card, please still feel free to ask a question anyway – Not only will you have the opportunity to get an answer to your question, but if you should win the gift card, you can donate it to a local charity or food shelf and help someone in need this holiday season. ***

So…that’s it gang – Simply leave your burning (food related) questions in the comments section here…We’ll compile of list of questions and answers that will be posted early in December…at which time a winner will be drawn for one $20 gift card to Cub Foods!

Happy Holidays!

*** Disclaimer - I will compile a list of questions for Heidi to answer.  She has graciously agreed to this Q&A, but if we have too many burning questions, we may have to pick and choose which get answered so that we don't have a list of 200 questions!!  (But wouldn't that be FUN!?!) The Cub Foods gift card is being provided by the fine folks at Cub Foods. I was not compensated for this post in any way.  The words above are my own...and the answers to the questions will come from Dietitian Heidi Diller. ***

How, oh how, can I make sure to include more veggies every day? I am getting a bit bored with carrot sticks and hummus, but don't want too much fuss.

I have vegetarians in the house. How can you prepare a well-balanced meal using just fruit and vegetables?

My question is this: Is it possible for someone to eat "too little".

I have friends that eat only 1200 calories a day - all the time - and I just feel like it's too low, but is there a "too low?"

Thanks - thesuburbanjungle @ gmail.com

Are there any cold cereals you would consider healthy (rather than just healthier than the rest)? My kids would eat cereal day and night but I don't really believe any of it's any good.

Cascadian Farms has new organic cereals in your natural food section. Are these really healthier than the regular non-organic cereals?
