Minneapolis Farmer's Market...

Sunday, August 1, 2010

It has been a couple of years since I hit the Minneapolis Farmer's Market - I was spoiled working a block away from the Thursday one for a couple of years...and I used to love to hit the weekend Farmer's Market when time allowed...

It was something I put on the Gust Gab Summer Bucket List for this year...and today, I finally made the trip...
I went nice and early in hopes of dealing with less crowds...(bwahahahahahahahahahahahaha)

Seems everyone wants a glass of fresh squeezed orange juice...(or a brat! you should see the lines for brats by 9 am!)

But me...What do I like to eat at the Farmers Market? Not the giant delish looking cinnamon rolls with 2 inches of frosting on top...
Nope...(Well,I do but...)
Roasted Corn on the Cob...
YUM!
Is there ever a bad time to eat fresh roasted corn on the cob?

I immediately fell in love with the metal garden sculptures...and while I have some crazy sunflowers of my own in my garden...
how cool would one of these be?
(Sorry for the bad pictures...it was a little hard to be carrying my camera, my corn, my 40 pounds of fresh veggies and my other purchases around by myself!)

But...there's that thing called money that prevents me from going all crazy like and buying three one of everything...and I had already spent my weekly allowance and then some...the reason that I made the trip today was because I needed to get my paws on one of these...

What are those things? Well, they are rain barrels...And we've been researching and talking about and looking at and never finally just getting one...
So today was the day...With an unbelievable sale at the Minneapolis Farmer's Market - I knew I had to get down there and snag one...
(It looks AWESOME in our yard too, even though I didn't splurge for the wine barrel one, which is what I have really really been pining over - when it's all set up and ready to go...(we're getting a little unconventional with ours) I'll show it to you all...)

It was hard to not buy up a few of everything this morning at the Farmer's Market...

Everything was so fresh and so amazing looking...
I left with bags full of cucumbers, green peppers, onions, corn on the cob...
YUMMY!
I had forgotten just how much I love this Farmer's Market, the people, the sights, the sounds...the Farmer's Market offered here in the 'burbs just isn't even close...
The thing I don't like, and had almost forgotten about as well, is the maddening parking and traffic situation though.
Ugh.
What a pain in the butt! My what-should-have-been-an-hour-trip of alone time to the Farmer's Market ended up being 3 hours...A huge shout out to the two kind strangers (in separate cars!) who spent 15 minutes helping me shimmy my truck out of it's parking space, seeing as how while I was inside, people got a little unconventional in the parking lot and left me about 3 inches to back out and get out!
GAH!
I'd love love love to go back again this summer...but we'll have to see how much patience I have left for the parking/traffic when it rolls around again...oh, and cash...cash for the amazing finds they have there!

did you go to mpls or st paul? In st paul you park on the streets at meters, so the parking isn't as much of a pain. but, I've never seen corn on the cob for sale at the st paul one so maybe that's enough of a reason to stick with mpls!! Yum.

I haven't been there since last year...but Brad and I purchased a rain barrel this spring - it's great for the flowers (inside and out)! Enjoy! Amy

I love it! We went on the last day of July - walked into the flower market and took a long deep breath! Heavenly.

I love the Farmers Market.

I don't live too far and I love the herbs from Dehn's garden. You have never SEEN such lovely rosemary and basil!!
