The Small and Mite-Y

Minnesota = Winter = Hockey

We've come a long long way since last year
our first year of official MITE-y hockey here in the great state of Minnesota!

We weren't off to the best start, all the way back in September,
when we had our first ice time for this season...

but we've found our groove...
or I should say, he has...

It's amazing how far he's come since those first few times out on the ice...

This year our fantastic coach has even added scrimmages against other Mite teams from around the Metro.
Sometimes they come to our arena.
Sometimes we 'travel' to other arenas in other suburbs.

It's been super fun to watch the kids put it all all together in a 'game' ~
even if it is a game where no one keeps score.
No one, of course, except every single kid who is out there, dressed in full gear ready to win!

And speaking of full gear, at our very first 'away game' - our opponents had fully dressed, geared up goalies!
We, however, do not play goalies at this level.
::gulp::

That one wasn't so fun for us.

But it sure is fun to see them out there, like the 'big kids' are.

Practices get long, but Sundays...'Celly Sundays'

Practicing their celebrations...

And when they get to use them in their *games* ~ it is just so so fun to watch!

As our season begins winding down, (only 4 more weeks to go!)
we look back on what was a super fun season.

A season of learning and growing.

A season of cultivating friendships, both on and off the ice.

I still don't know what next year will hold on the hockey front.
Will he still want to play?

It'll be his choice.

What we as parents have to decide, however, is what color he suits up in.

If we stay in our current home...does he continue to suit up for the Black and Gold?
Or...does he dress in Navy & Gold, with his classmates from school?
So far, the only kink in our open enrollment.
(If you are an open enroller, I'd love to hear what you do for sports & extra curriculars!)

(Mites from Lakeville, Prior Lake & Burnsville after a recent game.)

Maybe I could ask BatGirl, if she shows up for another hockey game soon?
She was the most adorable fan I've ever seen!

Oh, that is so precious! My kids did not do hockey, but I have a friend's whose boys do - the gear is a bit overwhelming!

No hockey kids here - yet! Great pictures! Visiting from SITS!

These are all terrific photographs! I especially love the last one of Batgirl :) . I was just wondering, because I enjoy blogging about family including my daughter, if it makes you feel awkward posting pictures of other people's children on your blog? Or did you purposely choose photos where you can't really see any other kid's faces? My daughter is in swimming, and was in dance before, but I was concerned about posting pictures of other children so I didn't.

We love hockey here. I'm so glad you have a young player!!! It's the greatest joy to watch your kids participate in something they love. Enjoy. #SITS

@Cole ~ Great question! I do struggle with that, and sometimes, even posting some stuff of my own kids now that they are getting older and will be wanting their privacy more and more...That said, I do take care with what I am posting, often times not showing faces...and then I do often ask the parents before I do (ie: say it's a birthday party or something like that...) A lot of the time I try to get my own kids and my own kids only in the shot - but sometimes that doesn't tell the story. It's a fine gray line, that's for sure...............

How exciting! That is the most handsome hockey player I've ever seen! I am a huge fan of Batman but now I think I'm switching to Batgirl - LOL! Thank you for sharing!

Winter sports are the best! He looks like he's having a blast playing hockey. I remember how much I loved figure skating at that age. Also, Batgirl is just too cute!! #SITSBlogging

Batgirl is adorable! It looks like your son is having a blast too! :)

Hockey! Here in Oklahoma we do not have ice sports although it gets cold enough we could. We don't even have any real nice ice rinks just to go skating and I have always wanted to learn how to ice skate. Thanks for sharing! #SITSBlogging

I love hockey, but I haven't been to a game in years. Bat Girl is too cute! Dee, visiting from SITS :)

holy cuteness batman...or batgirl! She is super adorable! And your son in ALL his gear! Does he get impatient with having to put so much on? It must take FOR.EV.ER! My son is so picky that he'd make me retie his skates 200 times!
I bet hockey is so big there that maybe you have a lot of pressure for him to play. You seem very down to Earth with it all though, letting him make the decision. Who knows...maybe he will want to stop playing, but then miss it and go back at it!
Practices must be cold for you and Batgirl...she needs a sherpa cape :)

So cute! Hockey is so fast and exciting to watch. I think my son could have been good at it, but we've never lived anywhere with school hockey teams!

Thanks for stopping by my blog!

My 4 year old son is a completely hockey-obsessed boy (the obsession started at age 1) and he LOVED looking at these pics with me! He wants to know how old the kids are, if they are big boys, because he can't wait to play on a team. He's still learning to skate, but plays hockey indoors in his socks all day long.

LOVE THIS! Such a cutie. We don't have many hockey opportunities in Florida, but it's sure fun to watch! #SITS

@Cynthia @You Signed Up for What?! Our son just turned 7 - these kids are ages 6-8, and there is a Mites 1 program that starts for age 4, and they have 'teams' ! It's fun! A very big committment, but...fun all the same!

Oh my goodness! Soccer is big here and I thought the kiddos looked cute. But they've got nothing on these little guys in hockey garb.

I'm stopping by from SITS. Nice to meet you!

Well, if that last picture isn't one of the cutest things I've seen, I don't know what is! #SITSBlogging

That little Bat Girl is the cutest! It looks like your son really enjoyed the game. It is always hard to tell with little ones what will happen from one year to the next! Good luck next year, not matter what he is involved with! I am here from #SITSBlogging!

Bat girl is completely adorable.
I love hockey, here in Hawaii the closest we have is street hockey. When I lived in Colorado going to college I got to go to a few Avalanche games they were awesome. Hope your week is great and enjoy all the fun activities.... I complain about the busy schedules and all the craziness but I couldn't imagine life any other way. #SITSBlogging love
