Cards for Cancer

Monday, March 15, 2010

Well, if you come around here every once in awhile - you know that one of my latest projects is with spiritjump.org, being a team leader for their first ever CARDS FOR CANCER DAY!

If you haven't been here before, or are behind in your reader like I am...let me give you a quick run down...I am collecting cards - all shapes and sizes, hand made or store bought, envelope or no envelope...whatever suits your fancy...to be delivered to those in the fight of their lives battling the Big C. CANCER.

I think it's safe to say that most all of us have been touched by cancer in one way or another...whether you've lost a close family member or friend or someone you know has...or maybe you have battled the beast yourself...
Cancer is an ugly ugly thing...and I am so honored to be a team leader to help put a bright spot in the day of these brave warriors.
I have had about a dozen people offer to join me in making cards to be delivered to the University of Minnesota Cancer Units...

I'll be honest - at first I thought it would be sooo fun to have everyone over, order up a few pizzas and whip out a few hundred cards.
After seeing just how much mess. And Chaos. And mess. Was left after I had my tiny pile of two cards two hours after starting, I realize that it just isn't feasible...
***At least not at my house...but I do have a friend who lives literally blocks from me - who has volunteered her home on Friday night, March 26th from 6-9 pm for a card making party at her house. She too has been touched by cancer, as her brother is battling stage IV Cancer for the past three years. Two and a half years ago, his Cancer was so severe they had to amputate his left leg. They know just how much it means to have people thinking of you, and letting you know just that. If you'd like info on the card making party at LeAnn and Dan's home on March 26th - please let me know. They'd be happy to have you over! ***

For those of you who do want to contribute a card or two or twenty on your own...please connect with me so I can add them to the pile - which thankfully, is now larger than two!

Together - We CAN make a difference!

Check out a few of the samples of cards from our team thus far...

This is what happened when two adults...and three kids tried to whip out a few cards...
I think we made 2 useable cards....but we had fun trying!

And these gorgeous cards here? Made on their lunch hour by one of my best friends and several of her colleagues. Soo beautiful aren't they? (the cards AND the women behind them!)

Check out an awesome video that showcases these great cards made for by our people contributing to our team (which is called - Together We Can Make a Difference!) along with many many more! It seriously brings tears to my eyes...

Won't you join us? You don't have to be all creative and crafty and messy! Stop by your local Walgreens and pick up a box of a dozen feel good flowered cards...I did...they cost $1.50...and I'm going to brighten the day of a dozen folks with those cards! Not too much you can do for a buck fiddy these days!

This is so great Darcie! I will work on a few over here. When my mom was sick (with cancer) we asked friends/family near and far, some that didn't even know her, to send cards thinking of her and she kept EVERY SINGLE ONE! One of my friends, a teacher in GA had her class make cards and they talked about her and her journey through sickness and eventual death. It's neat and very true that these cards TOUCH people! Thanks for doing what you're doing!!!

Shoot - I've been meaning to do this, but I have been swamped so far! I'll try to this weekend. Sorry for being so slow!

Great idea! I can totally buy some cards. Should I mail them down to you? Should I write on them?

My cards are far less fancy than the ones you have here!! But, it's the thought that counts, at least that's what I'm telling myself. We're going to be out of town the weekend of the 26th but as we discussed, the cards will be ready when you need them. Thanks.

@Laura - Not ALL of the cards are fancy - just the ones I posted pics of so far! HA HA!
(and I'm not sure if foam stickers on cardstock are really all that fancy!) but the kids and I painted some cards ~ I'll be featuring those soon!

This is so great thank you EVERYONE! I love these cards. People can see more cards by visiting Cards4cancer.org and clicking on Pictures.

Wish I was in the area to attend the card making party but be sure to take pictures :)
