Stacking the Deck...Home Improvement Projects

It seems like forever ago, that I shared with you our very rotten deck....

We're like, one month into winter and it seems like light years ago that we were outside with the warm sun shining on our backs.

Anyhoo - 

This is where I left off?

Our amazing contractor cleaned up the big fat mess we had going on - 

And built this big old platform that would soon become our new deck!

I had some crazy be careful what you wish for buyer's remorse...

is this thing too damn big for our house?

New footings...

The process took forever - but isn't that the way all home improvement projects go?

Over time, over budget?

It was worth it.

13 years I've we've waited for this thing - 

It's gorgeous!

Fall showed up with winter right behind her - 

So we didn't get very far on the lights this season - 

A couple of stair lights for now, as we ponder what else to do for lighting...

Seriously.

Hanging by a Thread...or Spindle - Home Improvement

It's always something around here...

but one of the things we've known was really something...

was this teeny tiny old deck...that needed replacing when we bought this place.

13 years later...

It came down to us not having much of a choice anymore...

Turns out - when there are holes in your deck with moss and/or mushrooms growing out of them...

Turns out, it was worse than we thought...

And the stairs were being held on by just a couple of spindles.

Yikes!


So...we had it removed...

and oh how I loved the wide open spaces!

But...you can't have nothing there, or can you?

It's tempting, to just close it off and do nothing...

but we do use our backyard every.single. day.

So once we get done dealing with this, that was uncovered with the removal of the deck...

We'll see what we end up with!

Didn't I say it was always something around here?

HA!

It's really too bad that this wasn't found, (or was it?) fixed and brought up to code a month or so ago when we had all of this brand new siding put on our house...
